New Bus Pass Options and Service Changes
coming for Centro Riders
New fares to go into effect May 18, 2009

Syracuse, NY – Centro customers in Syracuse will soon be able to buy NEW Centro 10-ridepasses that allow riders to buy 10-rides at once and use them at their convenience. The new passes will be available for adult riders ($12.50) and for those who qualify for Centro’s reduced fare ($6.00).  The new passes will be available when new fares - originally scheduled for May 4, 2009  - go into effect May 18, 2009.

“The new effective date is to allow proper manufacture and distribution of these new fare passes,” said Centro Executive Director Frank Kobliski.  “We want to make sure our customers are equipped with a full array of options when our new fares go into effect.”

In Syracuse, the cost of an adult fare ride is increasing from $1.00 to $1.25 and the cost of a reduced fare is increasing from
$0.50 to $0.60.

In addition to the 10-ride passes, Centro customers can continue to purchase unlimited ride passes and debit cards. Each will offer a new look as of May 18, 2009.  Centro will offer higher value debit cards of $15 and $30 to coincide with the new fares.

The new passes will be available the week prior to May 18, 2009 and can be purchased at:

On May 4, 2009 Centro is implementing limited service changes necessary to improve efficiency within the Centro system.  Two significant changes will be the redesign of the 723 Suburban East – Minoa route and the elimination of the little-used 250 Hancock Airport route.

The 723 Suburban East has been altered to preserve the most critical part of the route serving residents who would otherwise be left without transit options. The service will continue to operate weekdays between Minoa and Fayetteville Town Center, with limited service to Shoppingtown Mall.

Centro has also changed the zone locations along its commuter bus services – the 246 Syracuse – Oswego and the 236 Syracuse – Auburn routes. The zone locations and corresponding new fares were changed to make the fares and zones consistent between the commuter service and city transit services.  They will go into effect May 18, 2009.

Several other Centro routes will have slight routing or timepoint changes.  New schedules (Yellow) will be available in print and online on April 27, 2009.  Customers are encouraged to call 442-3400 for details.
