RIDES FOR WORK (Onondaga County Only)

Rides for Work is a short-term transportation service for low income residents of Onondaga County who cannot use the Centro Transit Bus to get to and from employment.  In certain cases, the work shift starts or ends before the buses are on the streets. In other cases, the worksite is not within walking distance of a Centro Transit Bus route.  Frequently, Rides for Work customers working evening or night shifts, use the Centro Bus to get to work and use Rides for Work to get home.

Rides for Work provides time for employees to make other, more permanent arrangements for getting to and from work.  Some customers arrange carpools, others purchase automobiles, and still others change their residences, worksites, or shift times to be able to use the Centro Bus.

Rides for Work staff also assist customers with trip planning making sure they connect with the proper Centro Bus routes to get to work on time and get home promptly after their shift ends. While Rides for Work trips are fare-free, customers must pay applicable fares on the Centro Transit Bus if used to get to and from work.

Eligibility for Rides for Work is based on household income and an application is required.  Individuals who are receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Medicaid, Food Stamps, HEAP, and Social Security Income are normally eligible for Rides for Work.  For further information, please contact the Rides for Work office, Monday through Friday at 315-442-3380.

This special service is provided through grant funding provided by New York State, the Federal Transit Administration, local groups and employers.  The Rides for Work service is a result of collaborative planning with the Department of Social Services, JobsPlus, CNY Works, the Refugee Assistance Program and other employment support agencies.
