Specialized Transit

Introduction

Centro is committed to providing convenient, safe, and reliable transportation services to customers of various abilities. Each Centro bus is equipped with mobility lifts and ramps to assist customers in boarding and alighting the vehicles and to accommodate mobility devices classified as "common wheelchairs" according to regulations set forth in the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Customers should advise the driver upon boarding of any special accommodations required to facilitate their ride. Centro also offers curb-to-curb paratransit service (Call-A-Bus) for individuals whose functional ability prevents them from using Centro's regular route service.

Call-A-Bus

Call-A-Bus is Centro's paratransit program that provides coordinated ride-sharing transportation for people with disabilities who are unable to ride Centro transit buses due to their disability.

Call-A-Bus is a complementary service, meaning it matches the service area and operation hours of Centro's transit bus system, and is provided under the criteria set forth by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990.

Service available in:

  • Onondaga County
  • Oneida County
  • Oswego County
  • Cayuga County

Onondaga Senior Call-A-Ride (OSCAR) Program

The Onondaga Senior Call-A-Ride Program (OSCAR) provides ride services to senior (60+) residents of Onondaga County aboard Centro's Specialized Transportation vehicles through funding from the Onondaga County Dept. of Adult & Long Term Care Services.

Service available in:

  • Onondaga County (Only)

Reduced Fare / I.D. Cards

Centro offers reduced fare to persons with disabilities*, seniors*, and children (6-9). To ride for reduced fare, customers must show a combination of a Medicare Card and Photo I.D. or present a Centro Reduced Fare I.D. Card at boarding. To learn more, click here...

Priority Seating

The front section up to and including the first row of forward-facing seats on each transit bus are designated as "Priority Seating" for individuals with mobility issues. Decals above the seats in this section indicate the Priority Seating area as well as the securement locations for mobility devices.

Travel Training

Centro's Travel Training offers personalized, one-on-one or group travel training instruction. Taking each trainee’s unique needs and abilities into account, the Travel Trainer will teach participants how to safely and independently use the Centro system.

Service Animals

Service animals are also welcome on all Centro buses at no additional cost. However, we ask that you maintain control of your animal at all times while on board.

Mobility Device Securement Straps

The Q'Straint - Mobility Device Securement Straps (a.k.a. the Blue Straps) is installed on the main frame of a mobility device such as a power wheelchair or scooter, for a more secure bus ride. Drivers will safely attach the four point mobility device securement system to these blue straps.

Mobility Device Lifts

All Centro transit and paratransit vehicles are equipped with lifts and/or ramps to accommodate customers who use mobility devices.
