Part-Time Seasonal Bus Aide - Syracuse

DEPARTMENT: Syracuse Transit Operations

HOURLY RATE: 23.53

HOURS: Scheduled workweek will coincide with the SCSD student calendar. 

    Work hours consist of split-shift (morning and afternoon) (25 to 30 hours per week)

JOB SUMMARY:

This is a union, safety sensitive position responsible for monitoring the arrival/departure times of Centro buses at designated Syracuse City School District (SCSD) facilities; ensure the safe boarding and alighting of students, and ride designated bus routes to assist bus operators while transporting students.  This position is responsible for maintaining ongoing professional communication with SCSD Administrators and School Resource Officers, as well as enforcing the established student bus pass fare.  Aides will serve as a resource for Centro bus operators and students riding Centro buses.  Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Operations.

DUTIES:
  1. Communicate clearly and concise as a liaison between administrators at SCSD and Centro
  2. Assist Centro Bus Operators and SCSD administrators to ensure safe boarding and alighting at designated schools and along designated routes
  3. Explain and enforce the established SCSD bus pass policy and monitor student behavior
  4. Communicate information clearly and concisely to Bus Operators verbally.
  5. Establish effective relationships with co-workers and other departments to provide effective SCSD service.
  6. Keep operations department abreast of implications during shift and pass along relevant information to manager.
  1. Assist Centro Supervisors and/or Bus Operators if needed during accidents or incidents investigation.
  1. Monitor and supervise student boardings and bus traffic at schools
  1. Provide correct information to the students as required.

    10. Monitor and document on appropriate forms such information as running times, boardings/alighting’s, condition of shelters and signs.

    11. Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Ability to exhibit good written and verbal communication skills.
  2. Ability to supervise and organize work functions.
  3. Ability to effectively de-escalate difficult circumstances.
  4. High school diploma or equivalent is required
  5. Possess a valid New York State Driver’s License.
  6. Knowledge of transit routes, services, schedules, fares, equipment, and employee duties and responsibilities.
  7. Knowledge of authority policies and procedures.
  8. Knowledge of city streets and surrounding areas serviced by CNYRTA.
  9. Knowledge of relevant state and federal laws and traffic regulations.
  10. Skill in operating office equipment such as a computer, copier, calculator, and facsimile machine.
  11. Skill in performing basic mathematical calculations.
  12. Skill in maintaining records and preparing reports.
