Junior Accountant - Syracuse

DEPARTMENT: Syracuse Finance

SALARY RANGE: Grade: 4 - $48,792 to $54,537

Note:  Starting salary is determined by evaluation of experience and qualifications for the position

JOB SUMMARY:

Centro is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Accountant to join our Finance team. This entry-level position plays a vital role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the Accounting Department. The Junior Accountant will be responsible for processing accounts payable, managing vendor communications, performing reconciliations, and maintaining financial records in accordance with accounting standards and internal procedures.

DUTIES:
  1. Review and process vendor invoices, ensuring accuracy and proper matching with purchase orders using Microix
  2. Enter and process payments through Abila accounting software
  3. Perform monthly reviews of outstanding A/P checks and assist with reissuance of stale checks
  4. Communicate with vendors to resolve invoice discrepancies in a timely, and professional manner
  5. Support the month-end close process by preparing necessary documentation and assisting with reconciliations
  6. Sort and distribute incoming mail and ensure timely routing of invoices for approval
  7. Maintain organized, accurate records of all transactions in both electronic and paper formats
  8. Assist with collecting W-9 forms for new vendors and ensure compliance in vendor setup
  9. Provide backup support for other accounting staff and contribute to special projects as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Experience:  Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field and a minimum of 2 years of accounting experience (required); Bachelor’s degree (preferred).

  1. Basic knowledge and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) principles.
  2. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software systems (e.g., Abila, Microix).
  3. Awareness of ethical standards as they apply to accounting and financial responsibilities.
  4. Familiarity with general finance and accounting practices.
  5. Understanding of basic internal control principles and procedures.
  6. Willingness to learn transportation industry standards and practices.
  7. Ability to follow Centro and departmental policies and procedures accurately.
  8. General knowledge of applicable state and federal financial regulations.
  9. Skill in compiling, organizing, and analyzing financial data; ability to perform basic mathematical computations.
  10. Effective oral and written communication skills.
