Trainer - Syracuse

DEPARTMENT: Syracuse Human Resources

SALARY RANGE: Grade: 5 - $55,623 to $62,171

Note: Starting salary to be determined by evaluation of experience and qualifications for the position and will be set at some point between the minimum and maximum of the pay scale.

JOB SUMMARY: This position conducts and coordinates bus operator training for all Centro properties (Onondaga, Cayuga, Cortland, Oswego, and Oneida), including fixed route, paratransit (Call-A-Bus), and refresher training. The position is non-exempt.
DUTIES:

 

  1. Conduct new hire and annual HR training sessions.
  2. Conducts training for new bus operator classes to include the successful completion of acquiring a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-B), safety policies, route training, accident procedures, and customer service skills.
  3. Conducts and coordinates refresher training for employees.
  4. Conducts annual defensive driving review on all bus operators and any other employees who are 19A.
  5. Assists in administering the 19A road test on annual basis; qualifies and/or disqualifies operators based on test results.
  6. Administers all Written /Oral 19-A tests.
  7. Assist with retraining operators if warranted after preventable accidents, bus operation concerns (manifest), equipment issues and customer service complaints.
  8. Conducts and coordinates training of new and current bus operators pertaining to Call-A-Bus policies and procedures including ADA.
  9. Assist and coordinate employee access to virtual training software (NeoGov).
  10. Provide mentoring for new and current bus operators.
  11. Assists maintenance department employees in acquiring a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-B)
  12. Assist with special operations events (State Fair, Syracuse University, etc) as needed.
  13. Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Experience training and teaching adult learners in professional, academic or workforce settings
  2. Possess a CDL-B License or ability to qualify to get one within the first three months of employment.
  3. Possess a 19-A certification or the ability to qualify to get one when becoming eligible for certification.
  4. Proficiency in utilizing a personal computer, Microsoft Suite, and various additional software programs.
  5. Skill in interpersonal relations. 
  6. Advanced skill in oral and written communication, organization and project/time management.
  7. Strong communication and public speaking skills with the ability to interact professionally with others.
  8. Ability to work independently and unsupervised.
  9. Knowledge of city streets and surrounding areas serviced by CNYRTA.
  10. Knowledge of relevant state and federal laws and traffic regulations.
  11. Knowledge of ADA Regulations and Specialized Transportation policies and procedures.
  12. Knowledge of transit routes, fares, equipment, and employee duties and responsibilities.
  13. Knowledge of authority policies and procedures.
  14. Knowledge of union contract requirements.
