Syracuse City School District

The Syracuse City School District provides transportation for high school students through Centro Transportation using student bus passes. Centro and SCSD are committed to working together to make transportation reliable, safe, and easy for students and families. Read on to learn how SCSD Student Passes work and how to use them.

Quick Facts

SCSD student passes:

  • Work on school days only.
  • Allow two rides per day (to school and home).
  • Are valid 5:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • After 5:30 p.m., an activity pass is required.
  • Can be used on regular Centro buses.
  • Allow transfers when needed.

Students must carry their pass every time they ride.

How Student Transportation Works

All transit-eligible high school students will receive Centro bus passes from their school. Students who attend non-public schools must contact SCSD Transportation for photos/Student ID/Passes at 315-435-4260.

Students may need to transfer buses depending on where they live.

Families can plan trips using Centro’s online Trip Planner.

How to Ride the Bus (Step-by-Step)

If your student is new to public transit, follow these simple steps:

  1. Find your school in the route section below.
  2. Use the Trip Planner link.
  3. Enter your home address and school name.
  4. Review the suggested route and departure time.

Bus drivers are available to help if students have questions.

How the Centro Student Bus Pass works

Student bus passes are valid for two trips per day, one trip to school and one trip home. Once students board the bus, they must swipe their pass on the fare box. These passes only work Monday through Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. when school is in session, including half-days. When a student needs to transfer to complete their trip, they will need to swipe their pass on each bus.

NOTE: SCSD passes and Activity Passes will NOT be accepted on the Sy 50 Destiny – USA bus line or to/from the Destiny Mall.

If a student needs to take the bus home after 5:30 p.m. they may board their bus at the designated school bus stops using their SCSD pass and a properly completed Activity Pass or other valid fares. To the right is an example of what an Activity Pass looks like.

Transfers

Some students may need to change buses during their trip.

  • Transfers are allowed with a valid student pass.
  • Students should swipe their pass again when boarding the next bus.
  • The Trip Planner will show when a transfer is required.

After-School Activities

Students staying after school for sports, clubs, tutoring, or other activities may travel later than regular pass hours with an activity pass.

Activity Pass Required

If riding after 5:30 p.m., students must carry:

  • Their regular student pass and
  • An Activity Pass issued by their school, properly filled out and signed by an SCSD administrator.

Contact your school office for information about receiving an Activity Pass.

Riding Safely and Respectfully

To keep transportation safe and comfortable for everyone:

  • Use only your own student pass
  • Follow driver instructions
  • Be respectful to other riders
  • Keep aisles clear
  • Follow school and Centro behavior expectations

Unsafe behavior, including fighting on buses or at the Centro Hub, or misuse of a pass, will result in forfeiture of all transportation privileges, including buses and the Centro Hub. Visit our Respect the Ride page for more information on rules of conduct and rider suspension policy.
